The first identified component supporting Original Zone.
MCU
Original Zone supports symmetric key authentication and "MCU intrinsic group authentication (MIGA)".
MIGA tests characteristic features of authentic MCUs. An MCU is authentic if it is of the authentic model, and has
the authentic group identifier.

The Original Zone backend provides challenge-response-pairs to the Original Zone
main devices in the field. For the generation of authentic reference responses,
at least one authentic reference component per authentic group is attached to the
Original Zone backend. The CRP update messages are protected by TLS.
The headphone is programmed with an Original Zone authentication app of the MIGA variant.
After receiving a challenge it runs a sequence of self-tests
of characteristic features of an authentic MCU, covering tests of the processor,
memory, and peripherals. The application samples timer values during the self-tests in order
to verify cycle-accurate program execution. Cycle-accurate execution is
hard to simulate on any non-authentic MCU. Combinig functional and timing tests,
the group identifier of the headphone model is reliably verified as well.
